Analyzing Masjid Wazir Khan to Enhance the Built Environment of Walled City, Lahore.

Abstract

Masjid Wazir Khan, situated in the Lahore historical Walled City, is a unique architectural master piece that took part in improved the city's built environment. The mosque, which was Built-in the 17th century during the Mughal empire, the mosque reflects the rich architectural cultural and heritage legacy of Lahore. The built surrounding and culture are deeply associated with each other. In addition, The events or activities that organized around the Wazir Khan mosque bring to the vibrant cultural fabric of the Walled City.  Both visitors as well as residents are attracted to the region's numerous festivals, religious gatherings, and cultural celebrations.  Traditional markets, known as bazaars, offer a wide range of handicrafts, textiles, and local cuisine, providing a unique shopping and dining experience. Without taking into consideration the conditions of the built environment around our site or any selected historic building, we cannot really say we’re keeping our heritage alive. To understand the current situation of the built environment around our site we’ve developed a “built environment assessment tool”. All the data for the tool was carried out through on-site visits, observation-based surveys, and peer interviews which later helped to conclude the current situation of the site.
