Digital Transformation of Judicial System in Pakistan: An Analysis of scope and concerns for a better future

Abstract

Technological innovations have revolutionized every domain of human life and the legal side of society is no exception. AI has brought digital transformation to Pakistan's judicial system through its tools, software, and systems. The world is a global village now due to the advent of modern tech-based mechanisms. Countries have digitalized their justice administration process making access to justice easy by facilitating litigants, attorneys, and judicial actors. Advanced databases of routine cases, judicial precedents, e-filing, e-evidence, e-courts, criminal profiling, data management systems, digital documentation, documentary review, crime mapping, digital surveillance, etc. have brought significant changes for providing speedy relief to aggrieved people. This research is intended to analyze the extent of digital advancement in Pakistan's judicial system. Because it is a developed country, Pakistan lacks the necessary resources, digital infrastructure, expert human capital, and finance. Therefore, several challenges need to be addressed through strategic plans. This study is also highlighting the various barriers in this regard. Researchers have relied upon information collected from secondary sources by using qualitative research methodology and applying an analytical approach after exploring relevant facts. The research has concluded with certain recommendations for timely and impactful policy-making to make Pakistan a better and sustainable place to live under the rule of law.
