Move Structure Analysis of the Titles of theInter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Press Releases

Abstract

A press release is a primary source of information or an official statement issued by a private or public institution to convey information to media houses, journalists, ESP learners and professionals. Currently, the study focused on exploring the titles of the ISPR press releases through move structure analysis. The research study comprises fifty press releases from the last three years (2020 - 2022) issued by the military institution. Swales’ Genre theory (1990) and Biber’s (2007) analytical framework were used as guiding paradigms in this research. A mixed-methodology research study explored the Move -1 by measuring its frequencies and percentages. The study explored the linguistic features, language conventions and significance of Move 1 and its various steps. The integrated application of Move 1 and subsequent steps performs the communicative function of the press releases. The current study identified a variety of linguistic features, language conventions in the titles of the press releases and their significance for ESP learners, curriculum developers and policymakers.
