Abstract

اے جنګ پرسته ستا له قصده

  زۀ به د امن ټپې ټول عمر کوومه

O warrior, in defiance of your fury

I shall sing the lyrics of peace forever.

Pashto folk literature has a very old history. It comprises of various genres like Charbaita, Tappa, Proverbs, Short Stories, Riddles, Nemakai, Bagathai, Lullabies, Children Songs, Gharhe, Sandy, Prayers, Kakarai, Elegies and so on. Among all these genres, Tappa, though apparently comprising of two short verses, is an ocean of concept, knowledge, and philosophy. In addition to art and thought, there is a lot of diversity and creativity in Tappa. Rarely one would find a subject matter where the art of Tappa will not be employed. One of those subject matters is “Peace”. All the time, the literature of every language has conveyed the message of love, peace, affection, morality, and brotherhood. The same role is played by Pashto Literature because the clouds of war and hatred have long since been hovering above. In face of these circumstances, Tappa has also raised the voice of peace along with other genres of literature.
