Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic affected valuable human lives worldwide. It seriously affected economic life of the people. Like other countries, Covid-19 has severely affected people in Pakistan including district Dir Lower. The current study was conducted in district Dir Lower with the objective to investigate the effect of Covid-19 on income of the people. Multistage sampling technique was used to select sample district Dir Lower in the first stage, followed by four tehsils in the second stage and eight village councils in the third stage. Yamane formula and proportional allocation technique were applied to select 378 households from 7112. A semi structured questionnaires along with personal interview were used to collect the cross sectional data from April, 2020 to May, 2021. SPSS was used for data analysis where frequencies and percentages were calculated. Multiple linear regression was used to examine the effect of Covid-19 on income of the people. The estimated results found that Covid-19 had significantly affected income of the people. Finally, the study recommended that the government should expand social protection programs coverage and outreach to provide unconditional cash support to the most vulnerable people in the Covid-19 situation and similar crises.
