Abstract

Khushal Khan Khattak is the founder of Pashto language and Pashto literature. He is famous as a warrior poet in the history of world. He is called the owner of the pen (Sahib-e-Saif wa Qalam). His poetry has many unique characteristics. These characteristics include Patriotism, Romantic, Verse composed during imprisonment, sycophancy, encomium, satire, hunting, ostentation, sexology and songs of love. Khushal Khattak was a very great lover. He was very fond of effeminate beauty. Khushal Khan Khattak wrote about twenty-two thousand verses in Pashto. About half of his poetry is consisted on religious topics. It is obvious from the study of his poetry that he was a very great religious scholar. Indeed, he was a revivalist on the pashtoon belt. He was a great scholar of Islamic law (Fiqha) Khushal Khan Khattak translated the famous book Hidaya from Arabic in to Pashto verses. This poetic intelligible simple and easy to the common reader. He wrote hundreds of verses in the praise of almighty Allah and in the praise of Prophet of Islam. He wrote hundreds of verses in the praise of the prophet’s companions. He wrote elegiac verses in the praise of Ahl-e-Bait. Thousands of verses are found on preaching and advice. Hundreds of Quranic allusions are found in his poetry. Indeed, Khushal Khan Khattak was a great religious scholar. He preached pure Islam.
